In the Artists words:

While working on the design and actually painting and adding sculpture to the squirrel, I was always thinking about women and children. I was also thinking about family and the importance of a strong family unit. I decided to paint the squirrel in soft warm tones and added the tree which could signify a family tree, growth or strength. I added the sunflowers for similar reasons. I decided to paint the baby gold to speak about how precious all children are in the world. This baby is very safe and protected, snuggled closely to the adult by its strong arms. The hand prints on the squirrel were created by some very special friends of mine and my daughter Sydney. The children that participated in this process were excited to be a part of something that they can come and visit in the community.
