“Country Folk Squirrel”
Artist: Anne Winsor
Sponsor: The Family of Elias Eade Jr.

In the Artists words:

I first heard of the “Squirrel Project” from my father in law Don Winsor and his wife Carol. He lives in Olean, in fact he has lived there his whole life – grew up in the house he then raised his kids in and still resides in- that would be over 80 years!!!!

They were visiting us in Connecticut as I had just completed painting two full size horses for the “Giddy Up to Granby” horse project – and they came to see all the painted horses. They mentioned that Olean is planning a similar project with squirrels and asked if I would be interested. I said sure. When they got home there was an article in the Herald about “Woodland in the City”. They sent me the article and then visited with Amy Sherburne and showed her some photos of my work. Well, once we figured out the logistics – a squirrel arrived in Connecticut and the project was underway.

The big issue now was what to put on it. As it turned out the sponsors for this squirrel are from Lebanon and they thought it would be meaningful to them if there was a way to incorporate their country into my style of Folk Art painting. I had to do some research on their country and get the lay of the land so to speak. The sponsors also sent some of their personal photos of Lebanon as well. All this helped a great deal – I feel I was able to create a Lebanon of long ago on one side of the squirrel and the hills of anywhere USA on the other – some scenes are from Connecticut and some from New York.

It was a lot fun to painting this squirrel and doing the research turned out to be a great learning experience. I am very happy to have been chosen to be a part of this great project.

Bio:

Art has always been a major part of Anne Winsor’s life. At an early age Anne discovered a passion for painting and the creative art of all mediums. After marrying in the early 80’s Anne and her family settled in Connecticut where she chose to use her artistic talents as a source for extra income and for her daughter to share her love of art.

Anne is a self taught artist and a long standing member of the Society of Decorative Painters (www.decorativepainters.org). Always looking for a new technique, she attends the Society’s annual conventions and participates in their group classes.

Anne has created many custom pieces for her customers including reproductions, antique graining, and folk art depictions of homes using acrylics, oils, and pen & ink. Although Anne can paint and create in any style, her true passion is folk art and primitive styles.
